weekly planner

or how I am attempting to teach my kids the passing of time ...
so far everything that has ever happened has happened "yesterday" magical past time that stores all their previous life :P
and the future is as far as 5 minutes from now .. and even that is waaaaaaay toooooooo faaaaaar, noooooooone can survive those looooooooong minutes waiting till the tea is warm not hot ... next day or next week seems like a lifetime of waiting ...

about a half year later since I wrote that ... not much has changed, BUT I have made the pocket planner I was dreaming of!

Tiny elf stocking

This happened about two months ago ...

Sam's kindergarden teacher calls me in the middle of the day .. I almost had a heart attack in those few seconds, million thoughts entered my mind about some pretty crazy scenarios what could have gone wrong (from simple sleeplessness and crankiness to meteorite crushing) ... as a mom herself she starts conversation saying "everything is OK, do not worry!" and only hen "hello!" :D

she had noticed my obvious crochet obsession (I had crocheted there in waiting room while Sam finishes her lunch or washes her hands ... ) and asked me If I could make tiny stockings for all of the kids to hang by their lockers and greet with candy in the morning - what a nice idea - obviously I was hooked! 

First I tried to crochet one, but after two hours I still had nothing or rather I had something that didn't look cute at all so I frogged it with no regrets and turned to my sewing machine :)

fast summer pants :)

Found this ridiculously easy summer pants sewing tutorial!
and wanted to share this brilliance of simplicity :)

First time I tried to sew them though the measurements failed me and I found out that my butt is BIG :D

So next time I tried to sew these summer pants instead of measuring my waist I measured my hips just to be sure the pants will cover it. And fabric width should not be 3/4 of this measurement but rather 5/4 ... just because you loose some "waist" length making the crotch. and it is a lot easier to cut off some fabric then add it on ;)

It took me 2 days of my baby girls nap times to finish the pants but it was totally worth it!!!
and believe it or not - it really is THAT simple to make a summer pants :)
Says the person who hadn't used the sewing machine in ages - that is saying something!

not so pink couch

For past 7 years pink couch has been there for me in good times and bad .. but lately I had neglected to call it pink because it had been stained so badly and was pink just in my memories.. so he* had a makeover and from now on will look like this!
* yes he! .. it feels weird to call my sweet pink couch as "it" ..

Wrap it up!

My baby girl was cranky for few evenings and I realized I want scarf sling to hold my baby close and have my hands free to do other stuff (I do already have ring sling but it is not appropriate for infants).
As I knew I will use it rarely and just till she learns to sit on her own (I like my ring sling and I think it's easier to use than a scarf sling) and my baby girl turned 2 months old yesterday (OMG! time flies when one's having fun) so I can't afford to wait when I will get to the store (we cant't buy it in our home town and we are not planning a trip to Riga any time soon) or while I get one delivered by buying on internet ... besides they usually are quite expensive ...
So I made it myself! From a leftover fabric I had in my home .. you'll soon find out why I had those fabric pieces ;)

It is made from two pieces of fabric (68x240cm) overlapping in the baby part. so now it measures 68x440cm it could have been 20 cm longer... that would make it easier to tie it up.. but nevertheless I like it very much. And my baby girl loves it too :) she falls asleep almost instantly when i thug her in.

I have started to daydream of a sling from two different fabric pieces so that the colors can play ... I will make one to show you what I mean if I get to the fabric store before my baby girl learns to sit on her own.

Pants!!!

My baby boy had a perfect pair of pants that could be used in this weather as warm underpants unfortunately he worn them out crawling around the house almost a year ago (then they were a bit too big and now they barely fit) .. so I made him a new pair out of a stained T-shirt! It took me just 3 of his nap times to finish them..

I made them a bit longer and wider than the original .. babies grow so fast!!!

the New Old: Lamp

I think "the New Old" is going to be in a series, because in our new apartment is a hidden room with all kind of old stuff ... It' s like my own museum, the room is full of all kind of things, some are just rubbish but some are pure gold that I would like to use in various ways! :)
the first one is lamp, because it' s the most needed at a time.. otherwise we would have to sit in the dark :D

flower coushin

I saw this amazing cushion on attic24 (with tutorial) and had to have one of my own, so I started to crochet. the first 2 rounds seemed almost impossible (15 stitches in one hole? :o and next row make them double ...), but when you get past that you understand that you had to have 6 flower petals (30 stitches) to nicely and easy add flowerpetels in the future (next rows).
In my stubbornness I tried to start with 5 flowerpetels (25 stitches), but then the mathematics will drive you crazy!!! If you ever attempt the flower cushion challenge be smart and listen to advices in previously mentioned tutorial ;)

this is my flower with 5 petels (as you can see I didn't get wery far...)
