Granny Square tribute blanket

Granny square tribute blanket made one cool square at a time!

It all started with LOVE sign inspired by Hunters Design Studio that i sort of free-formed using basic knowledge of solid granny square, my own Granny Diamond (the solid long one :D ) and the same joining i used for my triangular madness triangles, as well as plain stripes that formed E :) joined each letter with flat zipper method and was happily surprised they all did fit together just perfect
.. and so the middle piece was born :)

Tribute to Granny Square day :)

Last year I made a Starfish granny square for crocheters favourite holiday - Granny Square Day - dreamt up by amazing Susan @suregal27 :)

And well obviously thought that there should be blanket of all the coolest 4 round granny squares there is so I started hooking! Granny Square Tribute blanket - sounds nice right :)
Finding 4 row granny squares was quite a challenge tough .. but do not fear - I have quite a few great patterns linked to this blanket in my ravelry project page so do not hesitate and go check them out ;)
for some i tweaked the patterns a bit or made just first few rounds tough ..

LOVE

LOVE
First take.

Inspiration: LOVE cushion by @misterdomestic& as it turns out it originated from #colorblocklovequilt designed by @huntersds
So now i’m recreating it in crochet as well as changing some things - but the message is still there.

I started with a V because I felt that my Solid granny diamond pattern will fit perfectly - and it did! :)
(I joined those 3 parts like I joined Triangular madness triangles tough to add some texture to the surface)

Rustic Chic Blanket

Now when Rustic Chic Blanket is finally at its new home I will share the story here too :)

It all started with an idea like everything does!
And then across the virtual world spiked the first motif from talented Kate (you probably heard of her SignedWithAnOwl) that got the avalanche going :)
Then I made a pineapple heart .. and thought to myself how could they possibly be ever joined together properly ... but I wasn't ready to give up so next doily I chose to make was much bigger ... very much bigger ... and then I pretty much tried almost every lacy pattern I had ever liked or come across while hung up on on this blanket ... and during all the doily madness i just got brave enough to improvise the joining of the doilies and it was great when I had muse watching over my shoulder but most of the time it was pain in the ● ... and a lot of frogging ... and there still are some parts I think I could or maybe even should do better but then again - when I am not as picky as most of the time it looks just great :)

and I know for sure I will make more of this type of blankets, because they do look chic, they are surprisingly warm and I already have picked the yarn for the next one .. altough I might change my mind till I'll get to the yarn store (I tend to do so :D) ..

progress as seen on instagram :)

and a few closeup pics of finished blanket :)

BBB progressreport: The one before last :)

JUST border left!!!
and some of the yarn ends of course..

Latest newcomers:
  • round ripple square (from ravelry)
    • and I saw over the internet its lookalike snowflake pattern and that one is for free although I did not try this one yet;
  • BEST way to fill rectangular spaces - box stitch (tutorials and schemes can be found all around internet I just used trc instead of dc)
  • Two circles joined together as a symbol for love, marriage and working together (you name it), I saw in @memoo1409 instagram feed :)
  • V stich squared (made it up as I go, no actual pattern there)
  • and V stitch simply in rows for rectangle (this is the new MUST have blanket all around instagram, and from the small piece I made I do get why it is so popular - light, fast growing and simple!!!)

So here it is!
My BigBrightBlanket in all it's glory :)

The beginning of G-plaid!

I have started yet another project .. please do not judge me too hard ..

This one is gonna be very special!!!
  1. It's a gift, that will probably not be ready for this Christmas...
  2. It's the little brother of BigBrightBlanket
  3. Last row of every square will be in one color (dark brown) - so it will be easier to join them together :)
So far I have made just few squares... need soooooooo much more!!! I somehow thought I have quite a lot squares done so far and I could start arranging, but when I took them out in the daylight I had to admit, that this is not nearly enough to start the joining...

As I am a bit obsessed with ravelry lately (and not a fan of Instagram, because my iPhone apparently is too old and I can only sneak few photos through my hubbys phone) ... so I have links to square patterns in ravelry also if you want to add them to your queue ;)

Around a square !

I am in the middle of a chair cover and wanted to show off ->

I am using yarn leftovers from my summer bag, but I will need more .. as it turns out the chair is pretty big :D
If you want to make something like this yourself then read further ;) I have made a pretty lame photos of the scheme as it advances ... I hope it will help :)

progressreport - BigBrightBlanket :)

I have the first corner!
and the second one is not that far away... unbelievable! I can actually see myself finishing it at some point this year :)

I am thinking about a block with my name, the name of blanket and probably the year (years) I was making it. have you ever crocheted something like that? do you have any suggestions about this kind of block?

Here some close-ups from my Big Bright Blanket :)

progressreport - BigBrightBlanket :)

So as you probably know - I am in a process of making a BigBrightBlanket - a huge crocheted blanket with a variation of different blocks (not always different patterns but at least colours :)

Inspiration or patterns for some of the squares used in my BigBrightBlanket can be found there ->
These are the links that started it, but there are many more I browsed through for inspiration .. and some of them can be found on instagramm (I follow the users I'have found most inspiring, but I sometimes just check whats new under the tag #crochet too).

As you can see, the blanket is not nearly finished so there probably will be more blocks and more links of inspiration!

Happy crafting to you too! ;)
