LovelyCAL: introduction ❤

*CAL - Crochet ALong
Lovely because of all the hearts we're going to make

why today?
because I've been thinking of hosting a CAL forever ... and about these hearts since I saw amazing warmheartedquilt by Jodi (talesofcloth.com) about a month ago ... ❤

Warmheartedquilt by Jodi

& I heard that today is first day of spring and I've been making these yellow hearts for a while and daydreaming about them when instead of crochet hook my tinybaby occupies my arms ..
I tend to overthink things but as part of my personal change (if interested more about that see almost daily pics @underthechandeleir) I learn to trust life, my gut & take a chance more often :)

I've had some color block lately and can't find the right colors for my future projects i've lined up in my head :D so I hope this will give me a looong needed push in the right direction.

Lets test me and you too! and start by making one yellow heart ;)
at this point no step by step pictures (my overthinking brain screams and bites, but I'll keep it at bay for now and share what i've done so far), but just try it out - real simple!

(two month's later - I've caved and added step-by-step pictures :D )

&yes make more, as many more as you want!

For the first week I've made 4 ❤  and hope to keep up at this speed when i decide on colour-way and yarnstore actually has the colors I need .. so see you in about a week or two with more news ;)

Yes! each heart has just two yarnends and I am thinking of continuous joinasyougo so there will be even less yarnends there :)

*** NEW ***
a bit more explanation how the heart is formed ;)
  • Part A makes a simple hexagon ..
  • Part B starts at the middle of first "heart hump" and you work 4/6 of a hexagon row by row adding it to the already made hexagon.
  • Then through the middle of the heart you go to the other side to start making part C that again starts in the middle of other "heart hump"..

***

But for now Happy Crafting!

P.S. if it helps - here is a colouring pages for your Lovely hearts ;)
Revised colouring page with better layout ;)

First colouring page (the old one ;D )

  3. I’m kind of late here but I’m thinking of using this pattern for a temperature blanket because I think this a really cute idea. How big are the individual heart motifs? Thanks.

    1. I used DK yarn and 4mm hook (If I remember correctly) .. and I have one project for hearts where I am using puppets perle 8 and size 2 hook - hearts work up beautifully in both of them. I think any yarn and appropriate hook would work.

  5. Can you help me with the ninth round? I cannot figure out which dc to go into once I've turned the heart around. Am I scing into the chain space I'm in? Or into the next chain space? Help!
