Tiny Mandala

Meet Tiny Mandala - perfect for those tiny moments of creativity. takes about half an hour to make and brings a lot of joy :)

Abbreviations used (US terms):

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
long sc – single crochet over more than one row of stitches
bpsc – back post single crochet
dc - double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
tr - treble crochet
tr3tog – treble 3 together

popcorn - make 5dc, drop the loop from hook, insert hook in first of 5dc’s, pull dropped loop trough

sl st - slip stitch
ch sp - chain space
st(s) – stitch(es)

Instruction repeats:
[ ... ] - used for smaller repeats;
* ... * - used for larger repeats.

I've used Batik Design ALIZE bella sport weight yarn.
And as I am tight crocheter I've used 3.5 mm hook.

I advise you to skim through all of the instructions before you start to crochet just so you know what to expect ;)

Pattern

You could switch colors each round or go with variegated yarn as I have.

Round 1:

Magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first tr of tr3tog), tr2tog (first tr3tog made).
[Ch 3, tr3tog.] 5 times. Ch 3. Sl st in first tr3tog of this round.
(24 sts: 18 ch, 6 tr3tog)

Round 2:

If you are using same yarn:
Sc in fist ch sp, ch 2 (counts as first dc), 5 dc in same ch sp.

If you are starting with new yarn:
Standing dc in any ch sp, 5 dc in same ch sp.

[6dc in next ch sp] 5 times.
Sl st in first dc of this round.
(36 sts: 36 dc)

Round 3:

If you are using same yarn:
Ch 1. Bpsc around next 5 sts.

If you are starting with new yarn:
Standing bpsc around first of 6 dc's. Bpsc around next 5 sts.

[Fpdc around tr3tog of first round. Bpsc around next 6 sts.] 5 times.
Fpdc around tr3tog of first round.
Bpsc around next st only if you started with same yarn!

Sl st in first bpsc of this round.

(42 sts: 36 bpsc, 6fpdc)

Round 4:

If you are using same yarn:
Sl st one more, ch 1. sc between bpsc's (this sc should be positioned in the middle of 6 bpsc!)

If you are starting with new yarn:
Standing sc in the middle of 6 bpsc.

[Ch 3, sc in fpdc. Ch 3, sc in the middle of 6 bpsc] 6 times.
On last repeat skip last sc and sl st in first sc of this round.

(48 sts: 36 ch, 12 sc)

Round 5:

If you are using same yarn:
Sc in ch sp, ch2 acts as first dc of a popcorn, make 4 more dc's, finish popcorn. Ch 4.

If you are starting with new yarn:
Standing popcorn in any ch sp. Ch 4.

[Popcorn in next ch sp, ch 4.] 11 times.
Sl st in first popcorn.

(60 sts: 48 ch, 12 popcorn)

Round 6:

If you are using same yarn:
Ch1, sc in popcorn.

If you are starting with new yarn:
Standing sc in popcorn.

*[Ch 1, tr in sc from 4th round.] 3 times. Ch 1, sc in popcorn.*
repeat from * to * 12 times.

On last repeat skip sc and sl st in first sc.

(96 sts: 48 ch, 12 sc, 36 tr)

Round 7:

If you are using same yarn:
Ch1.

If you are starting with new yarn:
Make first st a standing one.

[ 7 dc in ch sp from 5th round, long sc in popcorn from 5th round] 12 times.
Sl st in first dc.

(96 sts: 12 long sc, 84 dc)
